Jim Copenhaver, one of the two individuals critically injured during an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, is still battling “life-altering injuries,” according to a statement from his family. The incident occurred at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania where 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire, critically wounding Copenhaver and another attendee, David Dutch.
Critical Condition
Copenhaver, 74, from Moon Township Pennsylvania, is currently in the hospital with improved conditions since the Saturday attack. The other victim identified as David Dutch, 57, from New Kensington, PA also remains in stable condition as of Tuesday. A spokesperson for the Copenhaver family mentioned that despite being critical but stable condition and able to speak he’s “a tough guy.”
Family Statement
The family expressed gratitude for everyone’s support for James ‘Jim’ during this challenging time and praised the first responders and medical staff who have been caring for him. They also conveyed Jim’s thoughts and prayers to the other victims of the incident including President Trump.
Other Victims
Amongst others affected by this tragedy was Corey Comperatore. The retired firefighter lost his life shielding his wife and daughter from gunfire. In remembrance of Comperatore’s bravery, a memorial has been set up outside his former firehouse where he served as chief in the early 2000s.
Condolences & Donations
Helen Comperatore received condolences personally from former President Donald Trump following her husband’s heroic sacrifice. Donations have poured in to support both Helen and their daughter Allyson via a GoFundMe account which had raised over $1.1 million by Tuesday afternoon. Another GoFundMe page dedicated to all victims has garnered just under $5 million.
Community Support
In addition to the financial support, the community is planning a vigil for Comperatore on Wednesday night and funeral arrangements have been made for Thursday.
