Behind-the-scenes footage from the Republican National Convention reveals the moments before former President Donald Trump’s appearance on stage. The footage documents Trump’s reaction to speeches, including a popular address by wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, as well as his own entrance and speech.
Pre-Stage Anticipation
Arriving at the arena shortly after 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, Trump engaged in listening to a series of speeches. Among them was a notable address by Hulk Hogan, delivered with his characteristic raspy voice and peppered with his signature lines. Hogan’s performance seemed to delight Trump, who could be seen smiling broadly when Hogan dramatically revealed a Trump-Vance 2024 undershirt underneath his jacket and shirt.
A Historic Entrance
Before making his remarkable entry, New York Times photographer Doug Mills captured an image of the former president alongside former First Lady Melania Trump. Another reporter managed to photograph Trump positioned behind the stage prior to his entrance, which occurred once the stage design elevated to unveil him standing in front of illuminated letters spelling out “TRUMP”.

Honoring Fire Chief Corey Comperatore
As he claimed center stage, Trump turned attention towards the fire gear belonging to deceased fire chief Corey Comperatore. Comperatore tragically lost his life during an assassination attempt in western Pennsylvania earlier that week. During his speech, Trump offered a heartfelt tribute for Comperatore, describing him as heroic. He even left the podium at one point to approach and kiss Comperatore’s gear before leading convention attendees in a moment of silence in honor of the fallen firefighter.
Trump Recounts Assassination Attempt
During his speech, Trump shared details about the recent assassination attempt against him at a rally on Saturday: “Let me begin this evening by expressing my gratitude to the American people for your outpouring of love and support following the assassination attempt at my rally on Saturday,” Trump began. He continued, detailing how he was nearly hit by an assassin’s bullet, and expressed his gratitude to be alive “through the grace of almighty God.”
