Cruise was appearing on the show to promote Digger, his upcoming movie directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters October 2. Considering how much time Cruise spends discussing filmmaking, it must have been refreshing to enjoy a night out where somebody else could take the lead. And judging from his comments, he genuinely enjoyed the experience. He wasn’t complaining about being schooled. He seemed delighted by it.
Final Thoughts
I have to admit, I got a kick out of this one. Tom Cruise has made a career out of being the guy who knows exactly what he’s doing, whether he’s piloting aircraft or dangling from the side of a skyscraper. Yet he had no problem telling Jimmy Fallon that Taylor Swift was teaching him about football. There’s something refreshing about a celebrity who can admit somebody else knows more about a subject. And give Swift some credit. When she started dating Travis Kelce in 2023, she was asking the kinds of questions you’d expect from somebody who had never paid much attention to the NFL. Three years later, she’s explaining the game to one of the most famous actors on the planet while watching her husband play. That’s quite a transformation. Cruise may be able to handle just about anything Hollywood throws at him, but at Arrowhead Stadium, Taylor Swift apparently had the mission under control.
