Stick Run Creator Manuel Otto Dies at 30 After Reported Self-Immolation During Twitch Stream

A Tragic Loss in Bavaria

Manuel Otto, a game developer and social media influencer, died at age 30 after reportedly setting himself on fire during a Twitch livestream Tuesday evening in Bavaria. Otto created Stick Run, a popular game, when he was 14.

He was later found dead in an attic in Breitbrunn am Chiemsee after the house caught fire. The report said he appeared to be wearing women’s clothing during the stream.

A Neighbor Saw the Blaze

A neighbor noticed the fire and tried to put it out before emergency services arrived, but Otto had already died.

Stick Run Confirms the Death

The official Stick Run account initially said it was aware of a Twitch livestream involving its creator and owner in which he appeared to have taken his own life. It said Twitch had removed the livestream and associated video, urged the community not to spread unverified information, and asked anyone with useful information to contact the team or local law enforcement.

A follow-up statement confirmed the death of “our creator, developer, and fellow Stick Runner, Marc-Manuel Alexander Otto.”

Stick Run Was Part of Many Childhoods

Otto launched Stick Run as a free-to-play Facebook game in 2010 after creating it as a teenager. The game later expanded to other platforms and has been played by more than 43 million people worldwide.

In its statement, Stick Run said the game had been part of many players’ childhoods, bringing friends together to share laughs, compete for high scores, and make memories.

Twitch Removes the Channel and Video

A Twitch spokesperson told the New York Post that the platform moved quickly to remove the channel and video on demand. “What took place is horrible, and the mental health and well-being of our community matters deeply to us,” the spokesperson said. Twitch also said it offers tools to help users connect with local mental health resources.
