The media wants to be the victim now
Some in the press are trying hard to rewrite their role in this mess. According to reporting around Jill Biden’s memoir, the new talking point is that she was supposedly being unfairly accused of helping cover up her husband’s decline. That is a clever trick, if you enjoy being told not to notice what happened right in front of you. The problem is that the record is full of reporters and commentators dismissing concerns about Biden’s fitness as partisan fantasy, only to later act surprised when those concerns turned out to be obvious. It is like the guy who insists the smoke alarm is “just being dramatic” while the kitchen is on fire.
Tapper, Thompson, and the sudden memory upgrade
The same press that mocked or brushed off concerns about Biden’s mental sharpness is now trying to sell books and headlines about how everyone was fooled. Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson leaned into that storyline with Original Sin, which claims to expose the cover-up of Biden’s decline. But critics have pointed out that both men had a hand in downplaying the issue when it mattered. Tapper once pushed back hard on Lara Trump for bringing up Biden’s condition, while also calling him “sharp” mentally. Thompson likewise waved off Biden’s strange remarks as harmless quirks and suggested Republicans were weaponizing them. That is a lot of late-breaking honesty from people who spent years telling Americans not to trust their own eyes.
The real problem was always access, not ignorance
Even the new media version of events accidentally confirms the bigger scandal. If cabinet members could not get access to Biden for months, and if the White House was using a deliberate strategy to keep him hidden, then the story was never a mystery. It was a managed operation. That means the press did not simply miss the story. In many cases, it helped smother it. Conservatives have said this for years, and now the people who laughed at those warnings are trying to rebrand themselves as brave truth-tellers. Nice try. The American people know the difference between journalism and a cover story with better lighting.
