Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is taking a stand against failed House Speaker Mike Johnson and is asking his followers on social media to weigh in on the upcoming House Speaker election on January 3, 2025.
On Wednesday morning, Rep. Massie took to X to post a poll asking Republicans if they believe Johnson should be reelected as Speaker of the House. Massie’s followers, who are likely Republican voters, overwhelmingly called for Johnson to be removed from leadership.
This comes after Johnson’s betrayal and backroom deal with Democrats on a government funding bill, which President Trump had previously made several demands for. However, Johnson caved to Democrats’ demands and passed an “all-in-one” bill with near-unanimous Democrat support.
Congressman Cory Mills (R-FL) spoke to The Gateway Pundit and expressed his disappointment with Johnson’s actions, stating that more Democrats ended up voting for the bill than Republicans did.
But despite Johnson’s betrayal of the GOP and President Trump, it seems his actions were all for nothing. Even House Democrat Hakeem Jeffries has made it clear that his party will not come to Johnson’s rescue this time.
On January 3rd, we will elect a Speaker of the House.

In the past, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) filed a motion to vacate Johnson’s speakership due to her dissatisfaction with his decision to pass spending bills with Democrat support. The motion was successfully tabled with a vote of 359-43, with both Democrats and Republicans supporting Johnson.
Thomas Massie, along with Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), cosponsored Greene’s motion to Vacate earlier this year. And now, Massie is asking his followers if they believe Johnson should be reelected or if they should vote for “someone else.”
As of writing, over 106,000 people have responded to Massie’s poll, with over 93% of them stating that they believe someone else should be elected as House Speaker.
Even President Trump is reconsidering his support for Johnson after the government funding debacle last week.
It’s clear that Johnson’s actions have caused a rift in the Republican Party, and many are questioning his leadership abilities. But as President Trump continues to have a strong influence over the GOP, it’s possible that Johnson may not be reelected as Speaker of the House on January 3.
