Douglas Murray, a renowned author and political commentator, has criticized the Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle for allegedly prioritizing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives above the primary duty of protecting former President Donald Trump. His comments came in an impassioned interview with Sky News Australia’s Danica De Giorgio.
Murray’s Criticism of DEI Policies
Murray expressed his dismay at what he perceived as a lack of accountability from Cheatle and other officials, accusing them of allowing DEI policies to compromise national security. He was particularly incensed about their apparent disregard for the safety of former President Trump due to their focus on DEI quotas.
The Attempted Assassination Incident
His outrage was in response to a recent assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A 20-year-old gunman managed to get within rifle range and began shooting. Subsequent investigations revealed that law enforcement had flagged the gunman as suspicious an hour before the incident but failed to take any preventive action.
Blame on Cheatle and Other Officials
Murray blamed Cheatle and her colleagues for giving precedence to DEI policies over national security. He demanded their immediate dismissal from power, describing them as “a danger to the Republic”. He also criticized Cheatle for allegedly compromising physical requirements such as height and strength necessary for Secret Service agents in an effort to meet diversity quotas.
Murray’s Stance on Gender Diversity
Murray also took issue with a recent Secret Service advertisement promoting their aim to recruit 30% women by 2030. He argued that this focus on gender diversity is irrelevant in high-risk situations, emphasizing the need for competency over quotas.

Advocacy for Merit-Based Selection
Throughout his interview, Murray strongly advocated for prioritizing merit and qualifications over diversity quotas, particularly in critical roles like the Secret Service. He expressed full support for Trump and called for officials like Cheatle to be held accountable for their actions which could have potentially had catastrophic implications for both the former president and the nation.
