Ilhan Omar’s DNA and Passport Are Part of a Federal Immigration Fraud Investigation

DNA Enters the Investigation

Federal investigators reportedly have DNA evidence connected to Rep. Ilhan Omar as part of a criminal investigation into allegations of immigration fraud. The New York Post and Fox News reported that the evidence may be used to support claims tied to Omar’s immigration history and citizenship. The reports do not explain how the DNA was obtained. That missing detail matters because the evidence has become a major part of a case built around old allegations, government records, whistleblowers, and paperwork. An investigation is not a conviction, but the reported evidence raises the stakes for a congresswoman already facing a serious federal inquiry.

What Investigators Are Examining

The investigation reportedly includes immigration paperwork filed by Omar’s father. People familiar with the probe told The New York Post that federal investigators obtained DNA while trying to substantiate decade-old allegations involving Omar and possibly other family members. One source said the DNA was critical to an allegation that Omar married her brother when she wed Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in 2009. The allegation says the marriage was intended to help him obtain a green card, but that effort never came to fruition. Those remain allegations under investigation, not established findings.

Search Produces Boxes of Evidence

Homeland Security Investigations searched Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence last week, and agents were seen leaving the bungalow with boxes marked “Seized Property Evidence.” It remains unclear whether the DNA was obtained before or after that search. Fox News separately reported that sources said investigators have Omar’s personal passport and that reports claiming agents found her DNA in a trash can or dumpster were incorrect. The search and seized boxes add a physical dimension to what had already been a records-heavy probe. DHS and DOJ continue to decline comment to Fox News.

Passport and Citizenship Questions

Federal investigators reportedly have Omar’s personal passport as evidence. Her official passport, associated with her congressional office, has not been retrieved. Authorities reportedly are not concerned that she has fled the country. They believe she remains in the United States, and sources told Fox News that leaving would create additional problems because her husband and family members are in the country. The report also says the Trump Administration is seeking to strip Omar of her U.S. citizenship. That places the passport, immigration records, and citizenship question at the center of the federal investigation.

The Probe May Widen

The matter may not stop with Omar. CNN reported that the investigation could widen into a conspiracy case, and several members of Omar’s family have been subpoenaed. The Associated Press and NBC News also reported, according to sources, that investigators were examining Omar’s financial records. The subpoenas and financial review suggest that the inquiry may reach beyond one set of immigration documents, although officials have not publicly laid out a complete case. For now, federal agencies have offered no detailed public explanation while reports describe a probe involving immigration paperwork, alleged family conduct, DNA, a passport, and citizenship.
