Nidal Hasan’s Firing-Squad Execution at Fort Hood Is Scheduled for December 3, 2026

Execution Date and Location

Nidal Malik Hasan’s execution is scheduled for Thursday, December 3, 2026, at 1 p.m. Central Time at Fort Hood, Texas. The military psychiatrist has been on death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, since 2013 after being convicted by a military jury. The planned execution will take place at the same military installation where Hasan carried out the 2009 shooting. U.S. Army policy requires the execution to take place within 150 days of the president’s approval, and President Donald Trump has approved the execution.

President Trump Approves the Firing Squad

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Secretary of War Pete Hegseth recommended death by U.S. Army firing squad for Hasan and that President Trump approved it. Hasan was convicted in the attack, which killed 13 people and wounded 32 others while he shouted “Allahu Akbar.” The Secretary of the Army’s memo states that the execution officer will be the Commandant, United States Disciplinary Barracks. An official Army post also identifies Fort Hood, Texas, as the location and gives the exact date and time.

The 2009 Fort Hood Attack

In November 2009, Hasan opened fire on unarmed American soldiers at Fort Hood. The attack left 13 people dead and 32 wounded as Hasan shouted “Allahu Akbar.” Then-President Barack Obama referred to the incident as “workplace violence.”

Hasan Has Remained on Death Row

After his conviction by a military jury, Hasan was placed on death row at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas in 2013. He has now received a specific execution date and method: a firing squad at Fort Hood, the base where the attack took place.

A Rare Military Execution

The execution would be the first military execution since 1961. That makes the scheduled event an unusual action for the U.S. military, even as the Army follows the process outlined in its policy and the president’s approval. The date, time, location, execution method, and officer named in the memo provide a clear timetable for the punishment of the convicted Fort Hood shooter.
