A Horrifying Attack in Broad Daylight
Oklahoma City police released surveillance video showing a terrifying attack outside the Oklahoma City Police Department headquarters last week. According to police, a man in a wheelchair was hit with a Molotov cocktail and set on fire in an incident that looks like something out of a failed state, not outside a police building in the middle of America. The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Alexander James Emery. Video reportedly shows Emery running up to the victim, throwing the firebomb, and then, as the victim tried to get away, pushing the wheelchair back toward the flames. That is not just random chaos. Police say Emery was arrested at the scene after officers approached with guns drawn and bystanders rushed in to help the victim.
Police Say the Suspect Had Another Molotov
According to police, Emery allegedly told the victim, “Don’t talk to me,” before throwing the Molotov cocktail. Officers also said he had a second Molotov cocktail when he was detained and had a “very strong odor of gasoline.” That detail matters because this was not some coffee-shop misunderstanding that got out of hand. Police say the suspect was armed with more than one firebomb. Authorities also reported that Emery made a German phrase associated with Nazi ideology during the incident. The charges now include multiple felonies, including arson and assault with intent to kill. Funny how the usual crowd can spot “threats to democracy” in every school board meeting, yet real violence like this still reminds normal Americans why law and order is not a slogan. It is basic civilization.
The Victim Is Expected to Recover
The victim was taken to a local hospital after the attack and, according to reports, suffered minor injuries. He is expected to recover, which is a mercy given how much worse this could have been. A man in a wheelchair is about as vulnerable as it gets, and attacking him with fire is the kind of evil that should bring swift and serious consequences. The bystanders who moved to help deserve credit, and so do the officers who took the suspect into custody before anyone else could be hurt. Americans should not have to wonder whether they are safe outside a police headquarters. If public safety cannot be defended there, then every city leader in the country ought to take a long look in the mirror.
