Mullin: Lapsed FISA Hinders Threat Monitoring Before World Cup [VIDEO]

Mullin Says Democrats Made Security Harder

On Fox News Sunday, Markwayne Mullin argued that Democrats are treating national security like a spare tire they can leave in the garage until it rains. He said the lapse in FISA tools has made it harder for federal agencies to quickly track foreign threats, especially with major events coming to the United States. Mullin also blasted Democrats for what he called a weak record on border security, saying the last administration let dangerous people into the country and then made life harder for the agencies trying to catch them.

World Cup Planning Puts Pressure On DHS

Shannon Bream pressed Mullin on whether the expired Section 702 authority creates a gap ahead of the World Cup and America 250 celebrations. Mullin answered that there are still ways to do the job, but the process is much slower without the tool. He said work that could take hours may now take days, and in security work, that kind of delay is not exactly a comforting feature. He argued that the risk is higher because the events will draw huge crowds and require more coordination than many local agencies can handle alone.

Mullin Says Terror Threats Remain Inside The Country

Mullin said the threat level is as high as he has ever seen it. He claimed federal officers arrest terrorists every single week and said many of them are already inside the country, not just crossing the border. He pointed to the scale of the World Cup schedule, saying 78 games will be played across 11 cities in 38 days, which he compared to 78 Super Bowls. That is a big enough challenge on its own, without adding a broken toolbox and a pile of Washington excuses.

Local Police Would Carry More Of The Load

Mullin also said the lapse in federal authority pushes more burden onto local law enforcement, which often does not have the same resources as DHS. He said the federal government is trying to send money back out quickly, but the delay has already made things harder. His message was simple: when Washington stumbles, local officers are the ones left holding the flashlight. That may be how the swamp works, but it is no way to protect millions of people headed into packed stadiums and national celebrations.
